Years ago, I had a neighbor who left his network open, and I would randomly fire off a script that would simultaneously access his floppy drives from multiple computers, creating a similar effect to this vulnerability – but my floppy drive attack would lock up the whole machine by using all the I/O the device could handle and more, and make a ton of noise in the process. It was good fun, and he eventually found a way to stop it.
This scam has been going on for a while, but they have finally found a way to actually cripple Chrome browsers using multiple APIs combined to write junk files over and over to the hard drive (similar to my little “attack” described above). Luckily, this wont do more than lock up the browser itself.
